Uwin: common questions

What size hurley does my child need? Stand the hurley upright beside the player — the top of the bas should reach roughly the hip. As a guide: 20in to 24in for ages 4 to 7, 26in to 28in for ages 8 to 10, 30in to 32in for ages 11 to 14, and 34in to 36in for most adults.

Why are hurleys made from ash? Ash has an unusual combination of flexibility and shock absorption along the grain, so it flexes on strike instead of splintering. It remains the traditional and preferred timber for hurleys.

What length hockey stick suits which age? Stick length follows player height: around 34in for early secondary, 36.5in for most teenagers, and 37.5in for taller adult players.
