Boxing Gloves are an essential accessory in boxing equipment but, for those who are just starting in the sport, it isn’t always easy to pick the right pair. Check out some tips to help you find the best boxing gloves:
“What are the best boxing gloves for me?”
It’s important to understand that, although you can find gloves with graphics or patterns that will appeal to a particular gender, when it comes to the construction, there’s no such thing as women boxing gloves or men boxing gloves. The size of boxing gloves is measured by weight in ounces (oz). Each ounce is equivalent to approximately 28.35 grams. You can find gloves from 6 oz to 16 oz. The lighter the fighter, the lighter their equipment should be.
Finding the right size boxing gloves
Most boxing gloves available at McSport come in four different sizes: 10 oz, 12 oz, 14 oz and 16 oz boxing gloves.
Boxing gloves tend to get a little wider with use, so ideally you should look for one with a snug fit. Try to think of the boxing gloves as an extension of your body. If the glove is loose, your hands and wrists won’t be as protected and the risk of injury increases.
Leather boxing gloves are the most durable, but if you are just starting out, a pair of gloves made of good synthetic leather also work very well.
