HOOK AND JAB PADS (PUNCH PADS)

Code: BOX003

Boxing pads are an essential part of a boxing workout, but must be done properly in order to achieve the desired result. These quality training pads are red coated with a split leather shell, with black pigskin leather finger at the back. The high density filling will absorb the shock of each blow while providing safety and comfort for both the boxer and trainers. Many people will have memories of a trainer shouting instructions to the boxer as he goes AWOL on the pads from the movies, but this is actually a much more focused type of training. There are a number of routines that you could use while training with punch pads, but here are some of the popular ones that you could try during your next gym session:
• Planned combos: Set up a number of combos with your trainer, labelling them by number, e.g. combo one (left jab, left jab, right cross), combo two (right jab, left hook, uppercut). Then you can complete the combos in a sequence, or have your trainer call them at random.
• Called combos: Have the trainer call out random combos to execute. Adding movement to the training, whether called or planned combos, will add to the effectiveness, but should be done after you are used to this type of training. Giving the trainer the freedom to move will allow you to brush up on defensive and attacking footwork.
• Freestyle: This gives you and the trainer some freedom during your training session. The trainer will hold the pads in whatever position he decides and you must respond with the appropriate strike. This helps improve quick decision making and reaction time, which can be a vital attribute in gaining the advantage over an opponent in the ring.
Using pads for training purposes will only be effective when done as a team. Although this can be a fine exercise with friend, it will be far less effective if the person holding the pads does not know where and how they should be held to take a strike. McSport offers a wide variety of boxing equipment from heavy bags to quality boxing pads, so come and stock up on the latest gear today.
