Rugby Goal Posts & Equipment
Rugby goal posts are positioned at either end of a rugby field and consist of a crossbar (5.6 meters in length) that is suspended three meters above the ground. The
goalposts that hold the crossbar up are normally at least 3.4 meters high when measured from the ground.
Although a place kick or drop kick are not the only means of scoring points in the game of rugby, the
rugby posts do mark each team’s goal line and are therefore quite frequently an obstacle for players who are advancing towards the goal line at great speed. To prevent possible injury it is important to properly pad the goalposts with suitable
post pads, which are available in a number of team colours right here at McSport. Rugby is a fast-paced contact sport in which many a great player has been injured in ways that shorten their professional sporting careers dramatically. Great care should be taken to implement basic safety measures to prevent this from happening.

Rugby posts are involved in terms of scoring in the following ways:
- In rugby union a goal scored by means of a drop kick from the field during normal play or as a place kick after a foul is equivalent to three points.
- In rugby league, when a drop kick is scored from the field it is equivalent to one point, while a place kick after a foul translates to two points.
- In both rugby codes, a conversion place kick after a goal scores has a value of two points.
Rugby goal posts are permanently anchored on practice- and game fields, which means it is rarely taken down and seldom or never placed in storage (as opposed to
soccer goals which are not permanently affixed). Therefore, it stands to reason that purchasing rugby goal posts is normally a once-off investment, unless you settle for an inferior product that will not hold up to the elements.
Here at McSport we believe in stocking only the very best quality
sports merchandise. This is why we have sourced a large array of rugby grounds’ equipment, including
goal posts, which will stand the test of time.
