The sport of boxing first got a foothold in Ireland when the Irish Amateur Boxing Association was established in 1911 after a meeting of interested parties in Dublin. The National Stadium was erected in 1939 after the trustees and officers recognised the growing need for a venue solely dedicated to boxing. • Gloves, pads and bag mitts:
A good pair of boxing gloves is essential. We recommend the Anatomical Bag Mitts from Lonsdale with a unique injection-moulded inner that takes the shape of your fist, as well as the traditional Pro Fingerless Bag Mitts with jointed finger padding and added wrist support. Invest in Safe Spar Gloves to ensure successful sparring without injury, or train with the Heavy Bag Mitts, which have a high-density moulded inner. We also stock a variety of hook and jab pads in various shapes and sizes.


• Boxing Gear/Apparel:
Choose from hooded sweatshirts, shorts, vests and sweat suits. We also stock Hurricane Boots that boast an excellent fit, providing contenders with superb ring- and canvas grip. Suitable for both matches and training.


• Punching bags:
You choice of punching bag will depend on what your training requirements are. Choose a standard leather punch bag from Lonsdale with a rag-filled inner foam jacket for improved shock absorption plus a PU Angle Bag, complete with hanging straps. Alternatively, opt for the comprehensive three-in-one bag that combines the advantages of the straight punch bag, the floor to ceiling ball and the maize ball. We also stock the wall brackets and bag chains you will require to properly affix the bag of your choice before training.


• Hand wraps, tape and gauze:
Proper hand wrapping is important to avoid injury both during sparring and matches. We recommend the Lonsdale stretch material hand wrap with extended thumb hoop and Velcro fastening for improved support and fit. We also stock the trademarked Herring Bone Hand Wrap with 100% herring bone. Round off your purchase with professional gauze and tape.
